BAGUIO CITY— In a move to combat breast cancer incidence, the city council has approved a resolution to help in the city’s campaign against breast cancer.
The City Council has unanimously approved the measure for the integration of breast care programs in the district health centers in Baguio City as a lead action in its campaign against breast cancer.
Coun. Betty Lourdes F. Tabanda, author of the resolution said “the integration of breast care programs should include programs on breast protection, breast screening, mammogram if available, and breast cancer IEC.”
“There is need for a more concrete and aggressive action from the government sector through its health programs and services that are accessible to women”, she said.
According to Tabanda, “in the Philippines, breast cancer is the most common cancer disease and the leading cause of cancer deaths among women”, adding, “, recent statistics indicate that more there are at least 10,000 new cases reported annually and with thousands of deaths”.
Tabanda stressed “breast cancer is now considered as a major public health problem among women in the country”, however, she added “early detection and treatment is still the best defense against this dreaded killer disease”.
These programs, Tabanda said, can be integrated by the City Health Services Offices in the activities being rendered by the City District Health Centers in the city.
The city council has tasked the City Health Services Office to take the necessary steps for the full implementation of the programs. –**karitoon.com
