BAGUIO CITY, Philippines— It’s final, Brig. Gen. Danilo “Danny” Lim will seek the Senate seat during the 2010 Philippine national elections.

What started out as a campaign in his prison cell using the internet as his medium, Lim has formally declared his intention to join next year’s elections after registering as a voter with the office of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in his home town in Solano, Nueva Vizcaya.
“I formally declare my intention to run for senator in next year’s elections. My decision was brought about by my drive to pursue the reform advocacies I have fought for as a military officer for the past 35 years,” said Lim was quoted in The Manila Times.
“In time, I would be seeking the support of my countrymen who have been longing for genuine change,” was further quoted.
Earlier, Lim in the index page of the Facebook social network site BGen Danny Lim for Senator Movement was quoted to have said, “the option to run for a national elective post in 2010 is seriously being considered. But first, we have to make sure that there will be an election in 2010.”
The site which was registered on June 30, now boast of 6,000 members as of August 6. It is run by volunteers who believe in Lim’s ideals.
The site, pushing Lim for the senatorial race said, “we need men of integrity & character in the senate; men whose principles, ideals & conviction for good governance are going to reverberate much louder than the privilege speeches in the halls of the Philippine senate; and men who can command respect & give honor to every actions they do and every words they utter. Brigadier General Danny Lim is the man! Our man!”
Lim, is presently facing court martial proceedings. He was relieved of his post on Februaty 2006 for allegedly plotting a coup d'etat against President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Lim, a multi-medaled military officer was the commander of the 1st Scout Ranger Regiment before he was relieved and arrested. He is a distinguished alumnus of the US Military Academy, WestPoint, where he graduated in 1978.—larry madarang
