LA TRINIDAD, Benguet-- In order to address perceived disasters in Benguet during the onset of the rainy season, the Philippine National Police has recommended that each municipality or barangay have its own rain guage.
This recommendation was made by Sr. Supt. Wilben Mayor, Benguet provincial police director, during the meeting of the Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council recently.
Rather on merely relying on news bulletins, the municipality or the barangay will be better equipped in dealing with situations if they themselves have their own rain guage, Mayor said.
We will now have a decentralized or localized system of monitoring rainfall, according to the police chief.
The provincial government can now have members of the barangay or municipality to be trained by proper agencies so that they could read and interpret data coming from the rain guage, he stated.
Mayor said that the data now could be used as an early warning for the municipalities or barangays to order a pre-emtive evacuation before floods or landslides will occur in critical areas.
The landslides are prevalent in the Province of Benguet specially during times when there is continous or heavy rainfall.--larry madarang
