About 15 percent of the mossy forest of Mount Pulag is now converted into vegetable gardens and if this continues, our source of water will be threatened and we may suffer a more devastating effect of climate change. According to Abner Villanueva, Information Officer Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-CAR), the DENR last week headed an inter-agency group that visited Mount Pulag in Kabayan, Benguet. They have witnessed the destruction of the mossy forest as more and more farmers are now extending their farmlands inside the protected areas of Mt. Pulag , clearing through pine and mossy forest land. (continue)

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet??The prices of vegetables are dropping as we have an over supply of vegetables at the trading post of the holiday season?, this was the statement given to karitoon.com by the Cordillera Trading Post Traders Assoc. on Tuesday. Prices of highland vegetables have dropped to its all time low this year, Elsie Guis-it, president of the association said. There are 300 trucks filled with vegetables waiting in line to enter the trading post as we speak, Guis-it said. (continue)

According to Department of Agriculture Regional Executive Director Cesar Rodriguez, the project will focus mainly on research and development, to look on approaches on how to mitigate climate change. by Florante Solmerin MILITIAMEN-TURNED bandits on Friday released in two batches nine more hostages but still in their custody 48 hostages as negotiations continue between them and negotiators of the Crisis Management Committee of Agusan del Sur, the military said. Maj. Randolph Cabandbang, spokesman of the Eastern Mindanao Command (Easmincom), said the group of Juan Ondo Perez released the second batch of hostages at around 6 a.m. and the third batch at past noon. The released hostages were Fimpiana Avenido, Joselita Fernandez, Zenaida Maglasang, Lilia Caube, Merly Sanchez, Eluisa Alaba, belita Dolorito, maty Jane Goden, and Felix Lacre, all residents of San Martin village in Prosperidad town where the hostage crisis was located. Romeo Brawner Jr. on Friday said it was just simply a case of harassment and not a real ambush that happened to a six-vehicle police convoy that was fired upon by unidentified armed men last Thursday night while on their way to General Santos City to bring suspected massacre evidence in Maguindanao. Maj. Joel Lazo, spokesman of the Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom), said the decapitated head of Mark Singson was found inside a yellow knapsack dumped Wednesday night by two unidentified motorcycle-ring men in the public plaza of Basilan City.
